Express 35 (S.Killing)

Description

The Express 35 (designed by Steve Killing) is a recreational keelboat introduced in 1984 as a performance-oriented cruiser blending racing speed with comfortable accommodations. Built initially by Goman Boat Limited (Midland, Ontario, Canada) and later by Express Yachts (after a 1985 merger), it features a masthead sloop rig optimized for short-handed sailing and coastal passages. With a relatively light displacement and generous sail plan, the Express 35 planes easily in moderate winds, earning praise for its balance and seaworthiness. Approximately 50–60 hulls were produced through the late 1980s, making it a rare find today. It's particularly popular in Great Lakes and Canadian fleets for its "fun-to-sail" qualities and elegant interior. This Canadian Express 35 is distinct from the rarer U.S. Express 35 by Carl Schumacher (Alsberg Brothers, 1986–1988). Killing's design emphasizes cruising comfort with racing chops, influenced by his work on True North America's Cup campaigns.
