Europa 3000
Description
The Europa 3000 (sometimes listed as Europe 3000) is a classic British cruiser-racer sailboat designed by Chris Freer in the late 1970s, built primarily by Europa Sailcraft (and occasionally associated with Northshore Yachts) in the UK from around 1978–1980s. It features fiberglass (GRP) construction with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder, a masthead sloop rig (with some variations like overlapping genoa on regatta versions), and a reputation as a well-balanced, seaworthy boat that's strong in heavy weather, easy to handle shorthanded (ideal for couples or solo), and capable for coastal/offshore cruising or club racing. Two main variants existed: the standard cruiser (with comfortable accommodations for 5 berths in 2 cabins, galley, separate heads, and basic cruising layout) and a regatta/racing version (extended stern for ~2 ft more LOA, taller mast, deeper lead keel, larger overlapping genoa, and slightly adjusted sail plan for better IOR-era performance). Production was limited (dozens built, not mass-produced), making it a sought-after vintage classic today—often praised for its solid build, good motion in a seaway, and timeless appeal among UK owners.
