Edel Cat 33 (Edel 33)
Description
The Edel Cat 33 (also known as Edel 33) is a French cruising catamaran designed by Maurice Edel and Sylvestre Langevin and built by Edel Catamarans (France) from 1985 to 1989. It is a distinctive, affordable, semi-offshore catamaran with a unique layout: three separate volumes (independent hulls with their own companionways, connected by a central nacelle/bridgedeck and wide side decks). This creates a low-profile, rustic appearance unlike modern single-coachroof cats, with aluminum beams allowing disassembly for transport. It was offered in kit form (nicknamed "Edel Kit"), popular with charter companies and private owners for its robustness, low price, and seaworthiness. A "Light" version (2007 ADN redesign) added modern refinements like a single outboard (vs. twin diesels in some originals), better performance, and a draft of 0.78 m (for beaching/drying out). Around 60 original Edel 33 hulls were built, plus later Light variants.
