Eastward Ho 31

Eastward Ho 31

Description

The Eastward Ho 31 (also known as Eastward Ho Sr. 31) is a classic American bluewater-capable cruiser designed by Eldredge-McInnis (a respected naval architecture firm known for traditional, seaworthy designs). It was built in fiberglass by Portsmouth Yacht Co. / C. E. Ryder (USA) starting in 1959, with production continuing into the 1970s (exact end date unclear but a limited run). Some hulls were constructed in wood/steel/FG hybrids early on, but most are fiberglass with a long keel and masthead sloop rig (cutter versions exist). The boat is praised for its substantial displacement providing a comfortable, sea-kindly motion, generous sail plan for excellent light-air performance, solid construction, and suitability for coastal/offshore cruising or liveaboard use, with a reputation for durability and good handling in heavy weather.
