Dickerson 41 Ketch
Description
The Dickerson 41 Ketch is a heavy-displacement fiberglass cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Ernest Tucker and built by Dickerson Boatbuilders in Trappe, Maryland, from 1973 to 1983. As an evolution of the wooden Dickerson 40, it was introduced to meet demand for larger, family-oriented cruisers with custom interiors, transitioning to fiberglass for easier maintenance and durability. The ketch rig provides balanced sail handling for shorthanded crews (2-4 people), making it ideal for coastal gunkholing, offshore passages, or extended voyages in conditions like 15-25 knot winds and 2-4 ft chop. With a long keel for tracking and stability, it's renowned for its "bulletproof" seaworthiness and teak-trimmed accommodations, earning praise from owners for comfort during global circumnavigations (e.g., a 1974 ketch completed one from 1975-1979). Production was semi-custom (~19 hulls), with options for sloop or cutter rigs.
