Dickerson 36 Ketch
Description
The Dickerson 36 is a classic American bluewater-capable cruising sailboat built by Dickerson Boatbuilders (Trappe, Maryland, USA), a respected yard known for high-quality wooden (later fiberglass) yachts in the mid-20th century. It was designed by Ernest Tucker and introduced in 1971 as a moderately heavy-displacement cruiser with traditional proportions, a full keel (or keel-centerboard option), and excellent seaworthiness for coastal and offshore use. Construction initially featured plywood hulls with wooden decks/superstructure (some wood/fiberglass hybrids), transitioning to full fiberglass in later builds for lower maintenance while preserving the yard's reputation for craftsmanship, comfort, and stability. The design emphasizes a comfortable motion, good storage, and practical layout suitable for liveaboard or family cruising, with rig options including sloop, cutter, or ketch (though sloop and ketch are most common).
