Dickerson 35 Ketch
Description
The Dickerson 35 Ketch is a classic, heavy-displacement wooden cruising sailboat built by Dickerson Boatbuilders in Maryland, USA, during the 1950s-1970s. Designed for family gunkholing and coastal cruising, it evolved from Chesapeake Bay skipjack traditions, featuring a hard-chine hull for durability and an aft cockpit for safety. Available in sloop, cutter, or ketch rigs, the ketch version offers balanced sail handling for shorthanded crews (2-4 people), with the mizzen aiding maneuverability in tight quarters. Known for its "tank-like" seaworthiness and teak interiors, it's ideal for passages in variable conditions like 15-25 knot winds and 2-3 ft chop. Production was limited (~50-100 hulls), with a focus on custom strip-plank mahogany construction. Owners via the Dickerson Owners Association praise its longevity, though modern surveys recommend rot checks in older wood.
