Deckster
Description
The Deckster is a compact, innovative stowing dinghy designed by Benjy (of Benjy Boats) in St. Tropez, France, introduced around 2009 as a versatile tender for small yachts and coastal cruisers. This stitch-and-glue plywood micro-dinghy stands out for its "hole-in-the-hull" feature—a removable bow section that allows it to nest around a mast or fit snugly on tight cabin tops, solving the eternal problem of deck storage on boats like the Catalina 320 or Tayana 37. With its wide stern for stability and multi-mode propulsion (row, sail, motor, or pedal), it's a minimalist, seaworthy alternative to inflatable tenders or rigid prams, emphasizing simplicity for solo or duo use in harbors, bays, or light coastal hops. Plans are available from Duckworks and WoodenWidget, with a global community of DIY builders.
