CT 46 Ketch
Description
The CT 46 Ketch (also referred to as CT-46 or Ta Chiao CT 46) is a classic Taiwan-built bluewater ketch from the late 1970s/early 1980s era, part of the CT (Ta Chiao) series known for heavy-displacement, traditional cruising designs. These boats were produced by Ta Chiao Yachts (Taiwan), a yard that built many semi-custom or production cruising yachts in the 40–60 ft range, often in fiberglass with teak trim and interiors. The CT 46 typically features a ketch rig for easy shorthanded handling, balance in heavy weather, and versatility (smaller individual sails, good depowering options). It's a "go-anywhere" cruiser with a reputation for sturdiness, comfort, and offshore reliability, similar to contemporaries like Formosa or CT models (e.g., CT 42, CT 54 ketches). The design draws from traditional heavy cruisers (often with influences from William Garden or similar architects in the Taiwan export boats of that period), emphasizing long passages, liveaboard suitability, and stability over high performance or light-air speed. Many were built as semi-custom or for export markets.
