CSY 37
Description
The CSY 37 (also known as the CSY 37 Cutter or Caribbean Sailing Yachts 37) is a classic American-built bluewater-capable cutter from the late 1970s/early 1980s, renowned for its exceptionally heavy-duty construction, spacious interior (often called "huge" for a 37-footer), and proven seaworthiness. Designed primarily for the Caribbean bareboat charter trade, it combines traditional styling (raised flush deck, semi-clipper bow, oval stem) with a modern underbody (long fin keel and skeg-mounted rudder) for excellent stability, comfort in heavy weather, and reliability. Owners frequently describe it as a "tank" — solid fiberglass throughout (no coring in hull or deck), stiff, and forgiving, with a low capsize risk and good motion comfort. It's ideal for liveaboard cruising, extended passages, or shorthanded sailing, though not optimized for light-air speed or racing. Designed by Peter Schmitt (CSY's in-house designer), it was built by Caribbean Sailing Yachts (CSY) in Tampa, Florida, USA. Production ran from 1978 to the early 1980s (company ceased operations around 1981). Production Quantities: 87 hulls built (raised-deck cutter configuration; a limited run, contributing to its cult status among bluewater enthusiasts).
