Canadian Sailcraft 33 (CS 33)

Canadian Sailcraft 33 (CS 33)

Description

The CS 33 (also known as the Canadian Sailcraft 33 or CS/33) is a well-regarded Canadian cruiser/racer designed for comfortable coastal and moderate offshore sailing. It's celebrated for its solid build quality, balanced performance, spacious interior, and surprising speed for its era — often described as one of the best-built Canadian production boats of the late 1970s/early 1980s. Owners praise its seaworthiness, forgiving handling, good upwind ability (thanks to a high-aspect keel and rig), and comfort for couples or small families on weekend trips or longer cruises (e.g., Great Lakes, East Coast, or Bahamas runs). It's not a lightweight racer but excels as a versatile, stiff, and reliable cruiser with a low capsize risk and good motion comfort. Designed by Raymond Wall (former Camper & Nicholsons designer, working in-house at CS Yachts), it was built by CS Yachts (Canadian Sailcraft) in Ontario, Canada. Production ran from 1979 to 1987, with approximately 450 hulls built (a solid run for the class). A shallow-draft version exists (draft ~4.6 ft / 1.4 m, displacement slightly higher at ~10,100 lb / 4,581 kg). Construction features fiberglass (GRP) hull with balsa-cored deck, fin keel (lead ballast), and spade rudder.
