Chrysler Piirateer
Description
The Chrysler Pirateer (also spelled Pirateer 13) is a compact, trailerable daysailer designed for beginners, families, and casual recreational sailing on lakes or protected coastal waters. Introduced in the mid-1970s by Chrysler Marine, it was part of Chrysler's lineup of affordable fiberglass sailboats aimed at entry-level sailors. The design emphasizes ease of use, portability, and fun, with a planning hull that allows for exciting speeds in light to moderate winds. It's a monohull dinghy-style boat without a cabin, focusing on open-deck simplicity rather than overnighting. Production ran from around 1974 to the late 1970s, aligning with Chrysler's broader sailboat era before the company exited the marine market in 1980 due to financial challenges. As a vintage model, it's now popular on the used market for its low cost and forgiving nature, often praised as an ideal "first boat" for learning basic sailing skills.
