Hans Christian Christina 40
Description
The Hans Christian Christina 40 is a highly regarded bluewater cruising sailboat from the Christina series, designed by Scott Sprague and built by Hans Christian Yachts (Taiwan) starting in 1986; production numbers are relatively limited (typical of Hans Christian's semi-custom approach), with the model built through the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. Special features include a modern (for its era) fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for improved performance over traditional full-keel Hans Christian designs, a cutter rig for versatile and manageable sail plans on long passages, heavy displacement for excellent motion comfort and stability in heavy weather, high-quality teak interior joinery and exterior accents, a center cockpit layout providing a protected helm and spacious accommodations (often with a Pullman berth forward, double aft, and multiple heads), robust fiberglass construction, and a reputation for seaworthiness, elegance, and forgiving handling—praised by owners for comfortable offshore passages while being more responsive than heavier traditional cutters.
