Challenger 32
Description
The Challenger 32 is a classic cruising sailboat designed by Hector Ballester and built by Challenger Yachts Corp., based in Wilmington (later Costa Mesa), California, USA. Production began in 1969 and continued until the company ceased operations in 1980. Founded by Howard D. Stern, the builder was renowned for high construction standards, including being the first in the industry to offer an unconditional hull guarantee. Approximately 200 units of the Challenger 32 were produced, making it a relatively rare model today. It is a fiberglass monohull with a masthead sloop rig, emphasizing seaworthiness, spacious interiors, and offshore capability. Not to be confused with the Canadian Challenger Yachts Ltd. or other unrelated "Challenger" models like the UK-built Challenger 35. The boat is praised for its sturdy build and is suitable for coastal or offshore cruising, though it's slightly underpowered in light winds.
