Challenger 13

Description

The Challenger 13 is a compact, traditional-style sailing dinghy designed by Dudley Dix of Dudley Dix Yacht Design. It serves as a smaller, plywood-epoxy version of the Explorer, a fiberglass production boat originally built by Sentinel Boats in Cape Town, South Africa. The design prioritizes versatility, safety, and family-friendly performance, making it suitable for beginners learning to sail, as well as for rowing or motoring. It features classic lapstrake (clinker-built) aesthetics with a pronounced sheer and overlapping planks but uses modern materials for durability and ease of amateur construction. Initially offered as a 13-foot build-to-order model, it was later extended to 14 feet for fiberglass production, but plywood plans remain available for home builders outside South Africa.

Custom sail calculations are not possible for this boat as no I, J, P and E dimensions are available.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
