Cascade 42 HS
Description
The Cascade 42 HS ("High Side") is the updated and improved evolution of the classic Cascade 42, introduced by Cascade Yachts (Yacht Constructors Inc., Portland, Oregon) starting in 1988. It features modifications to the original mold: increased beam (from ~11' 11" to 12' 0"), raised freeboard (sides lifted 12–14 inches for more interior volume and drier deck), and refreshed interior layouts—making it more comfortable and spacious for liveaboard or extended offshore cruising while retaining the legendary "bulletproof" solid fiberglass construction (hand-laid, overbuilt hulls famous for extreme durability). This fin-keel (with skeg rudder) cutter-rigged sloop is a proven bluewater boat—stable, stiff, with good motion comfort (Comfort Ratio ~29, better than average for its class) and excellent righting ability. It's moderately heavy, tracks well in big seas, and performs reliably in moderate/heavy winds (though it may need motoring in very light air). The HS updates make it feel more modern and family-friendly compared to earlier Cascade 42s.
