C&C 37 Mk I I Race
Description
The C&C 37R is a high-performance racing sailboat designed by Robert W. Ball of C&C Design Group and produced by C&C Yachts in Canada from 1988 to 1990. It is part of the C&C 37/40 series (also known as the "new 37+" or C&C 37/40R), which was developed as a successor to the original C&C 37 (built 1981–1986). Despite the "37" designation, the boat measures approximately 39.5 feet (12.0 m) in length overall (LOA), a deliberate choice by the designers to optimize its Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) rating while maintaining a compact interior footprint. The 37R variant emphasizes racing capabilities, making it lighter and more stripped-down compared to the cruising-oriented 37/40+ model, with a focus on competitiveness under International Measurement System (IMS) and PHRF rules. Only about 100 units of the 37/40 series were built before C&C's Canadian plant closed in 1996 due to financial challenges, including a 1994 fire. The boat remains popular among club racers for its speed and build quality.
