Cal 3-27

Description

The last Cal 27 that was designed was the Mark III (sometimes called the 3-27). The name was later changed to simply "Cal 27". This all new 27-foot Cal was designed in 1982, launched in 1983 and was produced until the Federal Excise Tax forced Cal Yachts out of business in the late 80s. LOA = 26' 8" LWL = 23' 3" Beam = 9' 0" Draft (fin keel) = 5' 6" Ballast (fin keel) = 2000 pounds Displacement Fin = 5200 pounds Engine = Inboard diesel Sail area = 335.5 Sq. Ft I=33', J=11', P=28', E=11' Designer = Bill Lapworth Note: Compared to the previous design, the 2-27, the Mark III was lightened by 1500 pounds, narrowed by 3 inches, the waterline was increased, the sail area reduced. This allows the Mark III to rate better in racing and sail faster. The Mark III is a very quick 27-footer to this day.
