Byars 30 Raven
Description
The Byars 30 Raven is a custom 30-foot racing sailboat designed and built by Joe C. Byars (sometimes spelled Joe Byers), a prominent Tampa, Florida-based sailor, real estate developer, and amateur designer in the 1970s–1980s. He created a series of similar 30-foot racers for himself and local competition, including Sprite, Falcon, Eagle, and Raven—all optimized under rules like IOR (International Offshore Rule) for 3/4 Ton or MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Club) classes. This Raven (not to be confused with the popular 24-foot planing dinghy Raven class by Roger McAleer, or other unrelated Ravens like modern superyachts or international 3/4-tonners) was a competitive racer. Notably, a Byars 30 named "Raven" won the 1974 Three-Quarter Ton Cup/World Championship in Miami, highlighting its speed and design prowess in that era's IOR boats.
