Bristol Half Ton 28

Description

The Bristol Half Ton 28, commonly known simply as the Bristol 28, is a classic fiberglass sailboat designed by Halsey C. Chase Herreshoff (grandson of the legendary Nathanael Herreshoff) and built by Bristol Yachts in Rhode Island from 1972 to 1974. Only about 20 units were produced, making it a rare gem among Bristol's lineup. It was specifically engineered as a racer for the International Offshore Rule (IOR) Half Ton class, which targeted boats around 27-30 feet for offshore racing with a rating limit emphasizing performance over outright size. This model is essentially a sleeker, racing-oriented precursor to the more cruiser-focused Bristol 29.9, featuring less stern overhang for better speed and handling in competitive conditions.
