Bounty 41
Description
The Bounty 41 refers to the Rhodes Bounty II (also known as the Bounty II or simply Bounty in some contexts), a pioneering 41-foot fiberglass sloop designed by naval architect Philip Rhodes (often called Phil Rhodes). Launched in the late 1950s, it was one of the first successful production fiberglass sailboats over 40 feet, proving the material's viability for larger yachts and helping spark the fiberglass boatbuilding revolution. The original Bounty II was built by Aero Marine Plastics (a Coleman Boat and Plastics subsidiary) in Sausalito, California, starting around 1957–1958. When Aero Marine folded in 1960, the molds were acquired by Grumman/Pearson Yachts, who modified and rebranded it as the Pearson Rhodes 41 (produced 1962–1968, about 50 built). The two are essentially the same hull with tweaks: the Pearson version added more freeboard, switched from iron to lead ballast, split the large coachroof window into two smaller ones, moved the mast aft slightly, relocated the engine, and added more traditional wood trim for a yachtier interior feel.
