Boston Whaler Harpoon 6.2
Description
The Boston Whaler Harpoon 6.2 is the largest in the Harpoon series of fiberglass sailing dinghies, introduced in 1979 by Boston Whaler (USA) and designed by the acclaimed C&C Design team. Built as a racer-cruiser hybrid, it offers more volume and capability than its siblings (the 4.6 and 5.2), making it suitable for club racing, family daysailing, or light weekending on lakes, bays, or coastal waters. With a fractional sloop rig, centerboard for shallow draft, and a small cuddy cabin for gear or overnighting, the 6.2 provides a balance of performance and comfort—trailerable yet spacious for 3–5 people. Production ended in 1983 after just 150 units, enhancing its rarity and collectible status today. Like all Whalers, its foam-core construction ensures unsinkability, though the open-cell foam may require monitoring for water absorption. This model stands out for its "weekender" potential, with the cuddy adding versatility over open designs, while maintaining the series' reputation for durable, forgiving sailing. Owners often describe it as a "sweet performer" that's easier to handle than full keel racers but more capable than basic dinghies.
