Bahama 26 By Islander

Description

Overview The Islander Bahama 26 is a compact, early fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Joseph McGlasson (Islander Yachts' founder) and built by Islander Yachts in Newport Beach, California, from 1966 to 1967. With a limited production run of approximately 50–100 hulls, it was an evolution of the Islander 24, emphasizing affordability, trailerability, and seaworthiness for coastal daysailing, gunkholing, or short overnights for 2–4. Featuring a full keel with skeg-hung rudder for stability, a masthead sloop rig, and solid hand-laid fiberglass construction, it's forgiving for beginners (PHRF ~240–260) and stiff in moderate breezes (up to 20 knots), but it's underpowered in light air and tender in gusts without reefing. Owners appreciate its rugged build, "woody" V-plank gelcoat aesthetic (mimicking teak planking), and easy handling, calling it a "good old boat" for protected waters like bays or lakes.
