Alden 21
Description
The Alden 21 Double-Ender (design #409, also known as the Alden 21 Cruiser) is a classic wooden sailing yacht designed by renowned naval architect John G. Alden in 1925, embodying his signature philosophy of seaworthy, comfortable, and quick vessels inspired by traditional workboats like Grand Banks schooners. This trim, rugged pocket cruiser, intended for coastal cruising or offshore passages for two, was commissioned by a client seeking a "seakindly" boat for New England waters. With its double-ended hull, full-keel underbody, and choice of gaff or Marconi rig, it's a timeless example of Alden's 1920s golden era, when his designs like the Malabar series dominated offshore racing. Only a few were built originally (primarily in carvel-planked wood), but plans remain available for home or professional construction, appealing to wooden boat enthusiasts
