Alcort Catfish

Description

The Alcort Catfish is a classic fiberglass catamaran sailboat designed by George Patterson and produced by Alcort, Inc. (later under AMF Alcort) from 1964 to the early 1970s. This 13-foot beach catamaran was marketed as a fast, stable, and comfortable entry-level vessel for recreational sailing, day sails, and light racing, offering exceptional performance on all points of sail. It's part of Alcort's lineup of affordable, user-friendly small boats, following the success of their monohull designs like the Sailfish and Sunfish. The Catfish features a simple, self-bailing cockpit and foam flotation for safety, making it ideal for beginners or families on lakes and sheltered coastal waters. With its lightweight construction and high-aspect-ratio sail, it accelerates quickly in light winds but is heavier than modern beach cats, limiting its appeal for high-performance racing today. Production numbers are estimated at a few hundred units, and it's a collectible "novelty" among Alcort enthusiasts.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
