1974 Newport Holiday 20

Description

The Newport Holiday 20, also known as the Holiday 20, is an American trailerable sailboat designed by Harry R. Sindle as a high-performance daysailer and pocket cruiser for family outings or club racing in protected waters. Built by Newport Boats (later Lockley Newport Boats) in Newport Beach, California, starting in 1973, it was part of the 1970s trailer-sailor boom, emphasizing affordability, ease of towing, and spirited handling. Production was limited (fewer than 100 units estimated, based on owner forums), ending in the late 1970s as the company shifted focus amid ownership changes (acquired by Browning Arms, then Elgin International, and renamed Lockley Newport in 1976). The design features a lightweight fiberglass hull with wood trim, a fractional sloop rig, and a retractable centerboard for shallow-draft versatility, making it ideal for lakes, bays, or beaching. It's out of production but remains a cult favorite among restorers for its responsive performance and simple construction.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
