12' 6" Truant
Description
The design is often described as a "Simplified Sailer." It uses developed (conical or straight-section) hull surfaces that make it easier for amateurs to plank without complex compound curves or heavy framing. Builders can sometimes even build it with minimal traditional frames, chine logs, or clamps if following the "developed" approach outlined in the book. This makes it forgiving for first-time or budget-conscious builders using locally sourced lumber. The boat is featured in Edwin Monk's classic book How to Build Wooden Boats: With 16 Small-Boat Designs (originally published in the 1930s–1940s and still available as a Dover reprint).
